This is one of the Rarest Confederate Officer`s Identified Swords it Belonged to Confederate Major John A.A. West Commander of Artillery, this sword was sent over from London England maker of sword S.Isaac, Campbell & Co. they were a major supplier to the Confederacy.
It is etched with the Confederate droop winged eagle surmounted by 11 stars. The swords blade is profusely etched in relief with vine pattern and patriotic symbols. The droop winged eagle etched onto the blade is a well known Confederate symbol. The eagle is surmounted by 11 stars representing the Confederate States.
This swords guard is made of iron. The rough, slip resistant hand grip is wrapped with shagreen, which is made of shark or ray skin. You can still see his name on the scabbard from the old white paint " MAJ. WEST " and there`s more words underneath his name but cant make it out at this time.

His Confederate Majors Uniform is in the Atlanta Museum and i pictured in also on my pictures.

The second one is a 1850 Field & Staff Officer`s Sword Maker Ames Dated 1862 and has its original medal scabbard and its Identified on the pommel of this sword { Major C.H.Grosvenor 18" O.V.I. U.S.A. Athens, O. }

Whats really so neat about this story is when i was a young boy my father owned a body shop in Athens Ohio and on summer breaks from school and on Saturdays i would work in the body shop for my father, and i used to sneak up town to get away from the hard work and there was a Civil War Monument with soldier Statues on it. and i had know idea i would end up owning two of the Generals Presentation Swords and his Presentation very rare wood cane from the Famous British Battle ship Royal Savage 1176,

This civil war Ames 1860 model Cavalry saber dated 1863 with its original medal scabbard, What makes this sword so special is it was made into a Cavalry Officer`s sword, and Identified to Surgeon Major Benjamin R. Taylor 13th New York Cavalry had his name engraved onto the brass handle of this sword.
When have you ever seen anything like this before so rare, and also on the brass handle it has four marks which in this case i believe its how many battles this Surgeon was in. And now i own his Identified 1860 Ames Cavalry Sword - Shoulder Straps - Identified Corps Badge and his personnel Medical tools for a surgeon.

MORGAN WAS CAPTURED TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM THE UNION SOLDIERS & MILITIA IN PURSUIT WHEN HE WAS CROSSING OHIO AND WAS FINALLY CAPTURED AT LISBON OHIO JULY 26th 1863 THERE'S A VERY OLD TYPED PIECE OF PAPER THAT READS " THIS BELT WITH SERPENT OF REBELLION BUCKLE AND SABER WERE TAKEN FROM ONE OF REBEL JOHN HUNT MORGANS RAIDERS NEAR LISBON BY A MEMBER OF THE STEUBENVILLE O. MILITIA ON JULY 26, 1863. ON LOAN TO THE HALL BY MRS. JANET BAILEY OF ZANESVILLE. THIS GREAT RELIC WAS IN A VERY BIG CIVIL WAR COLLECTION SINCE 1958 AND BEFORE THAT IT WAS IN THE GAR HALL IN OHIO.

THIS IS A PRESENTATION SWORD AND IT READS [ PRESENTED LT. J.R. SHIRLEY 63RD O.V.I. BY THE BOYS OF HIS COMPANY ]
THIS SWORD WAS IN THE BATTLE OF BATTERY FORT ROBINETT OCTOBER 3 & 4tH 1862. LT. SHIRLEY WAS WITH THE 63RD OHIO AND THEY WERE CHARGED BY THE FAMOUS CONFEDERATE COLONEL WILLIAM P. ROGERS LEADING THE CHARGE WITH THE 2ND TEXAS INFANTRY.
THEY WERE HAND TO HAND COMBAT IN BATTLE. THE BOTTOM OF THIS LEATHER SCABBARD WAS DAMAGED IN THE BATTLE AND WAS NEVER REPAIRED. SINCE HE GOT OUT OF THE MILITARY SIX MONTHS LATER FOR HIS HEALTH.
