Identified Regulation Brigadier General`s Frock Coat, this coat exhibits all the characterics of a Civil War pattern frock. General John Cook 7th Illinois Infantry and this picture is of him wearing this Frock Coat. Colonel Cook served in the 7th Illinois Infantry and then received brigade command in October 1862 after a charge against a Confederate battery at Fort Donelson he was promoted to Brigadier General by Union General Ulysses S. Grant. He was born in Belleville Illinois June 12th, 1825. { His CDV of him wearing this Generals Frock coat comes with it. }

This Very Rare Battle field Grouping and material was purchased from the Family in November 1991 and consists of the Rare Officer`s Shell Jacket with Foote`s name written inside the collar tab. his Captain`s shoulder straps, his buff vest with cavalry buttons. red sash and two swords including a Presentation officer`s saber given to him in November 1861.
also comes with Military documents & Pension records from The Horse Soldier Research Service - Vonnie S. Zullo
Two Swords the first one Cavalry Officer`s saber Presented to Capt. B.F.Foote by his friends Nov. 2nd 61 inscribed on the edge of the Brass Guard. No maker marked, measures in length 36 1/4 blade & has original scabbard. 2nd Sword is a Ames Model 1860 Cavalry saber dated 1862 also owned by Captain Foote, measures 35 inches blade in length and also comes with original medal scabbard.

This is one of the rarest Identified Four Button Officer`s Sack Coat with its original Officer`s Mounted Cavalry Trousers, They are Identified to Captain / Major Joseph O`Keefe Aid-De-Camp to several Generals. While serving on Staff of General John Buford June 9, 1863 was captured at Battle of Brandy Station, Va. & While serving on Staff of Phil Sheridan Accompanied Sheridan October 19,1864 on Sheridan`s famous ride from Winchester, Va. to Battlefield of Cedar Creek.
Major Joseph O`Keefe 2nd New York Cavalry for distinguished and meritorious services on the raid from Winchester to the James River. And for great gallantry at the battle of Dinwiddle Court House March 31,1865 and at the battle of Five Forks April 1,1865, at which place he was severely wounded while leading his regiment in a dismounted charge upon the enemy`s works. He died at Providence Hospital, Washington D.C. 20 Hours after amputation of legin middle of theigh. { His sister was present and took his possession of his effects.
Union Officer`s Four Button Sack Coat, this coat is of four piece construction and is tailored of broadcloth with a green cotton lining. This coat has the 22mm two - piece Eagle C buttons which are back marked W.G.Mintzer Phil the on right side three cuff - size are back marked "Horstman/New York, two on the three on left cuff are Extra Quality and the third is Waterbury Button Co. the sleeves are 8 1/4 wide at the elbow and 4 1/4 wide at the cuff.
The shoulder straps are single border Major of Cavalry sewn high on the shoulders. They are 1 3/8 wide with Cavalry yellow field. The borders are highlighted with alternating triple strands of dead and bright bullion.
Union Cavalry Officer`s Trousers made of sky - blue wool satinet, these officer`s grade reinforced cavalry trousers are excellent overall with no visible markings, they feature a 29" waist and 30" inseam and measure 11" wide across the upper portion of the leg. the unlined pants are cut full and feature a second layer of heavy wool cloth or " saddle " sewn to the inside of the trouser seat and inner thigh area. the button down fly retains four original brass four hole 13 mm two-piece buttons bearing the back marked "Registered February 13, 1854 " six 17 mm buttons of identical manufacture and marking are stitched to the waistband for use with suspenders.
These trousers are in excellent condition with no rips, tears or blemishes save for slight fraying on the interior waistband and at the base of the hems from actual use. All seam stitching is original and in strong tight condition.
The out seam is detailed with a 1/8" cavalry yellow piping which originates at the top corner button hole of each pocket and continues down the hem. The sky blue color is vibrant. These Officer`s Sky blue trousers came with the Identified Four Button Officer`s Sack Coat of Major O`Keefe.

This is one of the finest Confederate Identified Cavalry Officer`s Frock coat that i have ever owned, This belonged to Lt. / Captain George Julian Pratt 18th Virginia Cavalry Co. H. who had an outstanding career with the Confederate Cavalry in General Robert E. Lee`s Army of Northern Virginia.
General John D.Imboden constantly praised him for his gallant style that on Seminary Ridge where they fought the engagement at Gettysburg. When the last of Pickett`s men straggled after their infamous charge, Captain Pratt as a member of Imboden`s Cavalry was given the task of protecting the Confederate retreat south.
Captain Pratt anger and call of duty to defend the valiant men who had been wounded in the battle of Gettysburg. During the Battle of Gettysburg the 18th Virginia Cavalry lost 87 men killed and wounded. Captain Pratt was wounded on 19th September 1864 during fighting at third Winchester, having three horses shot from under him in the process.
This Frock coat is published in the work " Civil War Art of Don Troiani page 199 " also appears in three location in the Civil War Collector`s Price Guide 12th Edition by published by North South Trader`s Civil War Magazine. Also on Gary Henderschott advertisement page 6, the table of contents page 14, and at the masthead of the Uniforms section on page 241.

A Magnificent 5th Artillery Burnside style Slouch Hat with large " 5 " with the crossed cannons sewn on black velvet on the front of hat. With two Ostrich plume and U.S. Eagle " A " button on the left side and the the United States coat of Arms in Brilliant Gold gilt on the other. Large gilt acorn officer`s cords, Magenta large sweat band intact and marked by the maker. And worn by Lt. Lemuel from Antietam to Gettysburg to the siege of Atlanta and was with General Sherman on the March to the Sea.
Lt. Lemuel Smith officers Frock coat a fine Artillery Officers uniform with the "A " Eagle buttons, Red Lt. Shoulder bars have faded to a bright vermilion color, well made and with his initials in the left sleeve. His Officer`s Eagle Buckle on its original Leather belt with the sword straps, and also his red sash.
And now i was able to buy his Presentation Sword in great shape that was in another great civil war collection for many years when this grouping was broke up. This Great Sword was a token from his company in Honor of his battles honor, They even listed all of his Battles with his regiment that they were in.

Fresh on the market just came out of the original Tinges family that has been passed down threw Generations from the Baltimore area. This is a Identified early Type 3rd pattern 9 button shell jacket with Maryland State seal buttons all original to this coat & none are resewn! cadet Gray wool made 1863 - 1864 in Mint but actually field worn that was wore by Confederate Pvt. Charles S. Tinges 4th Maryland Light Artillery aka Chesapeake Battery C.S.A. And also his Civil War haversack { tarred linen } of Confederate manufacture worn from 1862 to 1865 inclusive by Pvt. Charles Sewall Tinges and he had the haversack with him when he was Wounded in action at Gettysburg 7/2/1863 and captured at the David Stewart farm 7/5/1863. Sent to Decamp General Hospital David`s Island, NY 7/17/1863 and paroled. Enlisted 11/18/1862 and took the Oath of Allegiance at Richmond Va. 4/22/1865.
There`s a lot of civil war era documents that came in the haversack that tells when this jacket was sold to him for $14.00 one was December 9th 1864 & January 25th 1865 either way this very rare Richmond Depot jacket seen some major action and worn by this Confederate soldier. This has to be the Finest Identified Richmond Depot that has ever came on the market.
There`s also some family letters that come with it that tell all about this jacket belonging to Uncle Charles S. Tinges and has to be taken care of over the years. And a letter by the family member that Sold it to me that tells everything he knows about it and how many years he has had it. { It has been looked at by three Confederate uniform experts that all agree this is a wonderful example of the very early Richmond Depot Type 3 Pattern.

Steve Sylvia & Jack Melton was there and took pictures right away. They did a wonderful story on this Confederate Overcoat in the North South Trader Civil War Magazine Vol. 36 No. 1/ 2012. Confederate Lt. Samuel G. Bonn, 1st Maryland Cavalry -The Over Coat has the very rare Maryland buttons & the Rank insignia was taken off after the war by union law and was found in the overcoat pocket and reattached professionally. This Confederate overcoat is in excellent shape for its age but you can tell by the inside that it was used. Lt. Bonn`s Frock Coat is in the Gettysburg Museum on display. Don't let this one get away from you!

VERY RARE IDENTIFIED COLONEL OF THE UNION CAVALRY , CIVIL WAR UNION BREVET BRIGADIER GENERAL BORN IN MIFFLIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA AT THE OUT BREAK OF THE CIVIL WAR HE ENLISTED IN THE UNION ARMY AND WAS COMMISSIONED CAPTAIN OF COMPANY C, IN THE 1ST PENNSYLVANIA VOLUNTEER CAVALRY. IN SEPTEMBER 1862 HE WAS PROMOTED LT. COLONEL AND HE PARTICIPATED IN THE BATTLE OF BULL RUN, BATTLE OF ANTIETAM AND BATTLE OF FREDERICKSBURG.
PROMOTED COLONEL IN COMMAND OF THE 2ND CAVALRY DIVISION IN MARCH 1863, HE LED HIS TROOPS AT THE CHANCELLORSVILLE CAMPAIGN, BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG AND BRISTOE CAMPAIGN. CONSOLIDATED WITH OTHER CAVALRY REGIMENTS OF THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC IN 1864, HE SAW ACTION DURING THE APPOMATTOX CAMPAIGN UNTIL THE SURRENDER OF GENERAL LEE AND HIS ARMY THE APPOMATTOX COURT HOUSE. FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICES, HE BREVETTED BRIGADIER GENERAL, US VOLUNTEERS ON AUGUST 4, 1865. HE DIED IN REEDSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA AND HIS METAL CASKET WAS CAST FROM A MELTED DOWN CIVIL WAR CANNON.
